Youth Flyfishing holding an arctic grayling

Beginner’s Luck

Heading up to Denali, AK in July, 2018 for fishing was no small endeavor. I was determined to catch an “Arctic Grayling” which is considered a “rare fish.” We hadn’t done much fly fishing up to this point so when we hit the river next to the Kantishna Lodge in Denali, we were definitely amateurs.

As luck would have it, we encountered a few Arctic Grayling! As usual, and this both fills me with pride and kills me, I caught a little one that more than checked the box for me, and then the teenager caught a beast like 15 mins later! 🙂
